Hi, I’m Britta! I’m a certified art therapy practitioner with a bachelor’s degree in Marriage and Family Studies. I’m also on the path to becoming an occupational therapist.
My love for art began when I was a little girl. I still remember the joy of drawing a funny face in first grade and hearing my dad tell me it was amazing—that moment stayed with me and fueled my passion. Throughout junior high and high school, I explored various art forms, including ceramics, figure drawing, printmaking, and graphic design. By the time I reached college, I knew art would always be part of my life.
I majored in fine arts with an emphasis in graphic design, which I enjoyed immensely. After earning my associate degree, I served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Upon returning, I worked at a sign shop installing signs and decals. While the job was creative, it didn’t fulfill my deeper aspirations. Around that time, my husband and I started our family, and I became a stay-at-home mom—a role I cherished as much as my love for art.
Raising our four children brought immense joy, even through the teenage years. When my third child was three, she was diagnosed with Selective Mutism. We sought support through early education and occupational therapy, and it was during those visits that I discovered my interest in occupational therapy as a profession. I decided to pursue it seriously once my children were older.
When my oldest left for college, I began working as a special education aide at a nearby elementary school. Watching occupational therapists work with children reignited my passion for this field. I returned to school to complete my bachelor’s degree, this time in Marriage and Family Studies, and along the way, I became a certified art therapy practitioner.
Through my studies, I realized the profound impact art has on calming and understanding our emotions. For me, activities like crocheting are therapeutic—counting stitches helps quiet my mind and gives me space to reflect on life.
Now, I’m excited to share this journey with others, helping parents and children recognize and process their emotions through the incredible power of art.
